HP Stream 14-z010nr is a slim notebook with long battery life and very affordable price. It uses AMD ‘Mullins’ A4 Micro-6400T processor, mobile quad-core SoC clocked at 1.00 GHz with Turbo Core up to 1.60 GHz. The processor has 2 MB of L2 cache and integrated AMD Radeon R3 GPU. This HP notebook comes with a 14-inch HD BrightView WLED-backlit display.

http://www.notebookocean.com/hp-stream-14-z010nr-specs/

First users posting reviews of AMD Mullins Micro 6400T performance in Microsoft HP laptops.

Also both Notebookocean and Microsoft Store now list HP Stream 14z weight spec at 3.55 pound (1.6 kg) instead of first spec in news at 3.86 pounds. This shows maybe first or next model HP Stream is using more battery cells (10-12 hours with 50-55 watthours size)?

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store...-Signature-Edition-Laptop/productID.307284600

First user reviews mention good performance from AMD 6400T and also mention lighter weight than first spec:

SPEED AND FEATURES: Surprisingly fast AMD processor and snappy performance even with only 2 gigs of RAM.

DESIGN AND FORM FACTOR: It is SHOCKINGLY light and sleek for this price point. The materials themselves might not be MacBook quality but the form factor certainly is.

NOISE: Totally quiet and doesn't get hot at all. But speaking of noise, the speakers are GREAT.

PORTABILITY (SIZE / WEIGHT): Very, very thin for this price point. Other devices in this category are twice as thick. It's actually LIGHTER than the spec I got from HP.

Overall, plus performance for AMD Micro 6400T, new fanless design and four Beats speakers, but bigger battery size will allow 10-12 hours for laptops.

window doesnt really have trouble scaling down, its hidpi thats the issue. also 11.6" is the perfect size for 1366*768.

I'm not alone in feeling the Windows 8.1 interface is a bit clunky on small low resolution screens. I don't mind 11.6" for a pure portable but prefer 13.3 and 14 inch for a mix use notebook.

HP also sells a Chromebook with a Haswell Celeron, ~10 hours of battery life, 4GB of RAM and same storage size for the same price. It comes with 2 years of 200MB per month T-Mobile LTE. You can get Windows on it as well, though some drivers are missing so it's better to just run Ubuntu or Crouton.

Wasnt there a thread about this already, and it was mentioned that the price is too high? In any case, the price is too high if it hasnt been mentioned already. Not much storage for a 14 inch notebook either. Dont put much stock in user reviews, either positive or negative. Wait for some published reviews from reliable review sites. Cant really imagine the performance is that good with only 1.0 ghz base, but it does have turbo at least.

Looking at HP specs -- Dual Core Celeron, 2gb DRAM, two speakers, battery size 51wh, weight 4.07 pounds!

So HP Chromebook 14 model for $299 has only dual core Celeron and two speakers and weighs more (because battery is 60-70% increase over HP Stream 14 with 31 wh).

If using same size battery, then HP Stream 14 with quad core APU would have over 10 hours. Remember running Windows 8.1 instead of Chrome too.

So big question for most users is -- can it run many Windows apps that are free like Skype and freeware office and let me print out my homework and also enjoy Youtube videos with good sound?

For HP Stream 14, answer is yes.

That dual core Haswell Celeron would be faster than the A4 in many situations (I remember from I think an AT review they found a Haswell at 1.5~=~Piledriver at 2.3, and Jaguar~=~Piledriver, if not a little slower). So the only time the A4 would be superior is if all 4 cores were under load, and even then it may not be superior (since it'll probably be running in the 1-1.2 Ghz range, not 1.6, in which case each Haswell core will be around 2x as powerful). However, I'd agree that there's more to the debate between these two laptops than processor speed--there's weight, build quality, speaker power/quality, and OS.

And also worth mentioning is that the Haswell Celeron seems to be a dying breed, as more and more low end Windows and Chrome laptops feature Atom dual cores, which Jaguar has a 1.3-1.5x IPC advantage over.

However, at 14", this doesn't stand out to me as much as a 10" or 11.6" would. Still not bad value as a total package, just not exceptional like it would have been at $199. As for pure performance under Windows, you can get A6-6310 4+ GB laptops in this price range regularly, and occasionally you can still find a Haswell or Ivy Bridge Pentium or Celeron as well, and i3s for only slightly more, so this is not the best deal from that standpoint--it's the entire value proposition that makes this laptop worthwhile, rather than speed alone.

I wasn't sure what the MSRP was, but street price is about $230 for the 16GB version. The 4GB / 32GB version is easily found below $300 and it includes free cell internet for 2 years.

$230 for the HP 14"? I just checked Best Buy, NewEgg, and Amazon, and all three had it new for $299.

This is discussion for Puma APU used in tablets/convertibles and light laptops, because Beema is 10w+ and used in heavier mobile.

So, this is somewhat of a thread necro, but is anyone else irritated that this is the only Mullins notebook smaller than 15.6 inches that is generally available?

You can buy Bay Trail in any configuration you want, but despite launching 7 months ago, Beema and Mullins seem next to impossible to actually buy.

The Microsoft store is currently selling their "signature" (less bundleware) version of this laptop for $229. That is a bit more tempting. I am concerned about reports on Amazon reviews that the touchpad is bad, but I use a mouse mostly anyway.

Too bad it doesn't come with a year of Office 365.

I bought it and the touchpad ain't that great. The form factor is much better in person though, really nice design. Crap screen, good keyboard, great speakers though not too loud, thin and light and decent bay trail level performance. League of legends is very doable!

So what's the consensus on the CPU and is it better or worse than the Celeron N2840 in the stream 13?

Compared to the N2830: Similar single thread performance, much better multi-thread performance. Much better graphics performance. Power efficiency seems similar, or slightly better.

So all in all it's safe to say it is a better SOC all around? The Stream 14 is tempting.

My Stream is in and I've had some time with it if anyone has any questions.

My first impressions are great. Build quality is fantastic and MUCH better than anything in its class. It's even better than some $500+ laptops I've used and owned. I am truly impressed.

Performance has been adequate so far. It handles day to day tasks just fine. It won't take a whole lot to make it choke but for the average user I'm sure it will be fine. Websites load fine and the OS runs snappy. Apps run fine too.

Screen is decent. Viewing angles aren't amazing but watching a movie in bed with someone how working on a desk it is just fine. Colors don't seem to bad either although I haven't run any accuracy tests.

It came out of the box with about 17 gigs of free space. The emmc storage itself is faster than a mechanical drive but the bandwidth is lower so it's a bit of tradeoff.

I've had a similar experience, the sore spot for me is the slow emmc. I also find it interesting that they used an ultra book chasis.
