HP Software wont recognize printer

I downloaded the updated drivers for my Photosmart P1000 the other day after my switch to XP pro, and when i went to install them the software could not establish a connection to the printer, even though it showed up in hardware manager. I tried unplugging the power and usb cables, but it still wont make the connection. Has anybody else had this problem, or do you know how to fix it. HP telephone tech support isnt free :| so i'd like to get it solved w/o paying 5$ a minute. thanks
 
you have to follow the instructions exactly to get it to install, unplug the printer, uninstall everything in the device manager relating to the printer, and then start over

it just took me 4 days of trying what they suggest for my hp printer problem and nothing they suggested helped. i just ended up trying something weird and my hp printer finally worked....anyway, if you goto their website, their email tech support is free, they usually get back to you in under 48 hours. good luck!
