Do an Athlon 64 3500+ and an Athlon 64 Dual Core X2 3800+ use the same socket?

The computer I bought my mom for x-mas said it has the 3500, but in Windows it says it has the X2 3800.

Pretty nice little machine for $299

I'm concerned if a PSU designed for a 3500 single core CPU would be adequate for a 3800 X2 CPU.

Also, in the computer properties, it says the CPU is a 1Ghz sometimes, and 1.8Ghz other times. What's up with that?

Sweet!

In order:

Yes, they use the same socket.

The PSU should be adequate, the X2 isn't a power hungry beast.

It will throttle speed based on the amount of processor power needed at that time.

Now, question for you - where'd you buy it? I'd be in for a mislabeling of that caliber.

I got it here at the B&M (had a gift card that I had to get used).

I took it apart today to add a 1GB module. Wow, that thing was put together tight. It had an Asus motherboard w/ nForce chipset.
