I recently got an HP Scanjet 7450c. It includes an automatic document feeder (ADF). It uses HP Precision Scan Pro 3.0, which I imagine is used on other HP scanners. There are just a few things I find annoying and I wonder if anyone knows of workarounds:
1) My most common use is making electronic copies of documents, which I store for my records or for future use. The default scanning area is 8.51" by 14.01" inches. The main way to change that seems to be through the cursor. It would save me a lot of trouble if I could make the default scanning area 8.5" by 11.0" inches, but I don't see any way to do that.
2) I often scan directly into programs such as Paperport. When using the ADF, you can specify whether the input is letter or legal size, and I almost always want letter. However, the first page always comes out legal size, and then subsequent pages come out ok. My current workaround is to feed in a fake first page which I then delete, but I wish I didn't have to do this. This happens with a couple of different programs, so I suspect there is a problem with the HP twain driver.
A few other little things:
3) Documents fed in through the ADF often come through slightly crooked. Is this a common problem? I keep wondering if I have it hooked up wrong, but if so I don't know what the problem is.
4) Has anyone else found that your system is prone to lockups when using the scanner? I'm about to give up on the copy button, it almost aways causes an error, problems which you don't get if you instead fire up the software from the PC.
Thanks for any input. RW
