HP Scanjet Enterprise 7500

I just picked up a used HP 7500 for next to nothing. When I set it up the mechanics, including the automatic document feeder, performed flawlessly. Unfortunately, all the images (as PDFs) had vertical black lines and bars on the right hand third of one side of the duplex copies.

I experimented with it and found that putting a document on the glass and one-side scanning replicated the problem, so it's not in the ADF or the image acquisition on that side of the documents.

Problem is, I don't know what's causing the lines and I, for sure, I have no idea how to fix it. Of course, that's not going to stop me from TRYING! Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!!!

Trouble is, I'm not sure what to try next. Anybody got any ideas?

I read the maintenance tips and had already tried cleaning the scanning strip to no avail. Since I'm able to reproduce the stripes on a stationary scan, I'm not too sure the scanning strip is the culprit.

However, I noticed that the scanning strips are reasonably accessible and might avail themselves to disassembly and cleaning. I'll see if I can get inside it.

Thanks!
