The darn scanner failed to work several different computers running WinME using the USB connection. HP drivers are so buggy the parallel connection doesn't work either.

After installing software, while following the directions, I plug in the scanner and *poof* - nothing happens. WinME just doesn't find it. I had a new scanner (including software, cable, etc.) shipped and it does the same thing. Technical support said they've done all they can and I'm fed up. I'm still trying to find a computer running WinME that will work with this scanner. Out of the four custom built computers in my house, plus my friend's OEM built Gateway computer, non will recognize the scanner.

Any ideas?

I've had all kinds of problems with HP stuff on my Dads Athlon 900. He got rid of his scanjet 3200 because it simply wouldnt work at all.

Personally I think VIA usb is just plain awful.

There is a WinMe USB patch for some of the HP scanners, give that a try first.

Other than that it may be worthwhile to drop $10-$20 on a add-on PCI Usb card. Just make sure its not a VIA based add-on card!

I don't know it's prob the mad gay HP. My Scanjet 4300c just refused to work on my 366@550 system no matter what I did. Just installed it today on this via chipset computer, works great.

I have fought my HP 6200c scanner for some time, it will NOT work with USB & WINME no matter what I do. Tech support couldn't find a fix. I added a SCSI controller and hooked it up via SCSI, sometimes it works other times it won't on Win2K?

I am ready to give-up and junk the thing :(

well the two scanners they sent me to far to try are both being shipped back for a full refund. Now what should I look into? Possibly a Firewire scanner? Epson? Visioneer?
