Staples has the HP ScanJet 4600 on un-advertised special for $60.50 Best price anywhere else is in the $90+ range. They *MAY* be on clearance. There were 2 left in one of my local stores. Use the 12% off "Customer Appreciation" Coupon to sweeten the deal even more.

If its anything like the 4670 I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. I've got a 4670 sitting under my desk at work waiting to go back to newegg. HP total care couldn't even get this junk to work.

its probably a dead unit which happens and means nothing in mass production or its user error.

Well, mine has a sticker on the box that says "Special Buy. HP SJ 4600 See-Thru Scanner $60.50 after $30 instant savings" I dunno how good the unit is yet, since it's still sealed in the box. I suspect you got a defective unit, or you have a USB conflict with other devices and/or a non-compliant USB controller. I bought this model because you can scan things larger than 8.5x11 and "stitch" the images together with the software.

Maybe it is just a bad unit but it did pass HP's hardware self test... lol If its user error then why couldn't I nor 8 HP total care techs get it to work? Yes, I talked to 8 different HP techs.

If you have attempted to install either the 4600 or the 4670 then you know that the software has "foolproof" installation videos built in to the software install. I tried for 2 weeks to get this thing to work on 3 different computers and got the same results every time. Maybe I just got unlucky but I won't chance anything HP again.

Since you are getting this from a B&M store it will be easier to swap this out or return it if you have to. I will admit it is a good price. I paid ~$170 for my 4670.

Look at reviews before jumping in. I'm not the only one to have problems with this series of scanners.
