HP Scanjet 4300C *HELP*

Hi, my friend has a HP Scanjet 4300C scanner connected via USB to his dell dimension PC. It is running on Windows 2000. We have installed the scanner, both with windows detecting it (although to detect it the cable had to be pushed in morle) and running the s/w on the CD to install, BUT when we either press the scan button or try to go into HP's scanning software, the pointer turns to Busy, but the software will not load past this point, even tho App is present in Task Manager>Processes. This prob. occured when installing Win2K over Windows ME, current drivers have been installed as well as new ones, same prob.

See what you come up with

Thanks

Did you install the Driver before pluggin in the scanner?
If not, unplug the scanner, remove the driver, delete the device in Device manager
and start again, installing the driver an plugging in when prompted.
Be sure to reboot before installing the driver again.

yep 🙂 it said to do that in the HP-install thingy so i installed driver, ro-booted and then plugged in scanner.

Any other ideas?

P.S LiLithTecH, do you/did you work in Computer troubleshooting or sommat? just u seem to be giving good/lots of answers in other threads.

I have a scanner at home that is similar to that. I remeber it took it for ever to get loaded up. How long have you gave it? And if you use the task manager does it say the program is not responding?

Now that I think about it more I believe I narrowed it down to some program I could not be running while trying to scan....

Some of Dell's Dimensions had Underpowered USB ports.

You may want to try using a POWERED USB HUB
(I have had success doing this numerous times)

Thank you for the compliment.
Yes I do this for a living, have been for a long time.
Just thought it would be nice to pass on some of my knowledge.
