HP ratings on Cars

Okay here the situtation. I know there a lots of ppl who wants as much HP that engine can produce.


This is what doesn't make to much sense to me, so here the thing
Both have the same engine size and displacement, just different red line

Honda Accord 02 DX
135HP @5400

VS

Accord 02 LX
150HP @5700



Comparison btw DX & LX


Same thing for the 2003 Totoya Matrix


XR
130 HP @6000

VS.

XRS Trim (Sport)
180 HP @7600



So here my theory, can the DX and XR produce the same amount of HP as there "big brother" if they can redline at 5700 (Accord), 7600 (Maxtrix)

PS. Honda say VTEC does NOT exists on DX model, but would that just be VTEC is "giving" 5700 redline instead of the 5400.

On the Matrix, both engines are same using VVT-I Toyota version of VTEC


Furthermore, why don't they put VTEC on V6 engines.

Well, perhaps not exactly the same, but all these power measurements are a function of rpm anyway. So, if you could spin an engine to 20,000 rpm, it would make a lot of power. It just might explode in the process.

Another possibility is ignition timing, combustion chamber geometry and valve timing.

Even a small thing like a better air filter and air induction box will add 5-15 HP depending on the car.

Agreed, the different models would have diff fuel and timing maps. They might also have different intakes or exhausts.

As for the matrix, the main differences between the two models are that they have completely different engines! the XRS has the high end celica engine

300 RPM isnt adding 15 horsepower.

if that were the case I'd be shifting at 9000 on my dx rather than screwing around with exhaust and intake replacement.

and the previous poster is right about the matrix engine...good gawd, thats even worse. Higher revline does not make 50HP! :Q

If the torque curve holds flat, 300 RPM would give about 7 HP 😛

Torque is what you really want to compare. People buy vehicles based on hp, but torque is what you feel.

I must be really tired or have been playing entirely too much Golden Sun, because when I saw this thread I, at first, assumed that this ment Hit Point ratings on cars. Something like crash tests except with a hit point rating. I need sleep.

If this is true can you explain this (just on RSX and type S)


Accord LX vs LX-V6 vs Acura RSX vs Type S

I noticed that torque is about the same .... but does I also noticed that it has 6 gears.


RSX
160 HP @6500
141 lbs @4000



RSX -S
200 HP @7400142 lbs @6000

RSX -S It also matches the 200 HP from Accord V6 at a higher RPM but not in torque

Beside do we usually fully utilized HP rating on ours the car (eg <=100 mph) Normal Shifting of course at (2500-4000rpm)
