I just recently built a new PC and reinstalled all of my previous hardware, which included an HP all in one (printer/scanner/fax) machine...

I installed the printer drivers from HP and then when I go to scan something, the most recent software won't let you scan anything anything unless you have sign in with your HP Account...WTF??? it looks like it started last year...my older version of their software didn't require this...

Luckily I found a microsoft app in the play store that allows you to scan without logging into an account...wait...is that better or worse :(

I've been making it a point to tell all our clients to not buy HP products because of this

not that anybody wasn't aware, but the HP Way died when Carly Fiorina became the CEO.

As someone that worked for HP, it died far before that.

Hell, the acquisition of Autonomy - which was one of their biggest mistakes that led to an 8.8 BILLION$ Write-down - was agreed to in August of 2011 - before Whitman even took CEO and still under Léo.... and yes Meg Whitman was a fucking idiot too.

On 22 September 2011 the HP Board of Directors replaced Apotheker as chief executive, effective immediately, with fellow board member and former eBay chief Meg Whitman.[16] Though Apotheker served barely ten months, he received over $13 million in compensation: a severance payment of $7.2 million, shares worth $3.56 million, and a performance bonus of $2.4 million,[17] although the company lost more than $30 billion in market capitalization during his tenure.

Anyhow, as it relates to this thread topic - DO NOT use HP Drivers. Ever. There is a reason why it's a 150-300MB exe file - and thats because it's filled with shit - including spyware.

If plug and play drivers don't work, then toss it out the window at this point.

Should have tried to use Windows Update to get the drivers.

I have used NAPS to scan.

apparently someone thinks that Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman are the same person. :tearsofjoy:

Where in my post did you get that impression ?

I was saying that the problem wasn't just Carly - it was waaaaaaaaay before her.

I think you just missedthepoint.jpg ?

and yet you talked about a botched acquisition from 2011 to prove your point. As usual, tilting at windmills and screaming at mirrors. Congrats!

No doubt HP had some issues in the late 1990s, which led them to hire a CEO from outside. Fiorina is who drove the stake into the heart of the HP Way, no doubt about that.

HP back in the early days of Windows made by far the best printing HARDWARE... their drivers were always a bit shaky especially anything to do with built-in ethernet.

The only HP-branded PC components I still own are an ancient but still occasionally useful HP/e-waste grade PS2 mouse and a surprisingly reliable/fast 1tb PCIe gen3 SSD. (EX9500)

These days most HP stuff = garbage.

I think you're just a complete idiot that needs to take a refresh of 5th-grade reading comprehension.

I cited an acquisition from 2011 - practically defending both Fiorina and Whitmen - in showing an example of problems occurring in the predecessor before them (Leo)... As if they weren't bad enough. The point of my post (as it states in the very first sentence) is to say that the company didn't start going downhill with Fiorina (like you suggested in your OP) - nor Whitman. It's been going downhill for quite some time.

As usual, screaming at mirrors, which we're all accustomed to.

Fiorina came way before the Autonomous acquisition, you moron. Your entire point, if any, crumbles when you get basic facts wrong.

Having to support all different kinds of printers, it's quite amazing how i've had to fix exactly 1 non hp printer in the last 18 months, while we have multiple issues a week with the smaller consumer brand mfc printers. This was made even more maddening when the higher ups decided to remove the ms store from 1 of our images.

And what exactly is wrong with screaming at mirrors? :p

(I win all my best arguments that way!)

Believe it or not I've had by far the best luck over the years with Canon printers/MFD's for software and drivers. (in particular the mostly automated wireless networking setup)

Epson has also been okay software-wise although their older networking/driver utilities sucked.

I haven't bought an HP printer since the OfficeJet d135, which didn't turn out too well. Back in the 2000s, they used to publish bare PCL drivers or full software suites. So at least advanced users had the option of downloading the minimal driver software.

The few times a year I still need to print, it's to an old LaserJet 2100 (sadly a parallel printer). It's on only its 2nd toner cartridge and will probably end service that way.

I've never seen you attack other people with a total lack of self-awareness. If anything, you're on the highly deferential/polite side of the spectrum.
There are plenty of reasons (and they aren't purely political) that in P&N, virtually everyone views s0me0ne as the Marjorie Taylor-Greene of these forums. He never passes up on opportunities to triple down on stupid.

I switched my last company to Brother and we never looked back. Cheaper, more reliable and not held hostage to individual printer ink lines

HP is a giant cluster on the work station side too at least when it comes to enterprise contracts. They're stuck in the early 2000s and can't conceive companies want better than that these days

Correction ... you've never seen me attack anyone who didn't attack me first period. (often not even then!) If I do happen to get out of line (it happens) I usually realize it on my own and apologize when I cool off.

And I'm well aware of the rest .... one more reason on a long list that I mostly avoid that hell-pit. (this bleed-over post only serves to illustrate my point)

Finally if you want to "get offended" about something, kindly head back over to that other place where I'm certain you'll find no shortage of materiel and folks who can't wait to get indignant about it. Leave me out plz.

Hey Manly and s0me0nesmind do you think you could could keep your P&N bullshit to that particular side of the forum?

No problem if you can't but it would be a common courtesy to the rest of us if you could keep your petty bullshit confined to P&N.

Meh, I already had an HP account. So when I bought a new printer this year, adding it to my HP account was ez using their HP smart software. Both print and scan working as normal so far.

Everything seems to work in linux using the libre drivers in the repo. Last printer issue I had was with a xerox. Postscript was a paid addon, and the automagically selected driver didn't work. Took a little trial/error to find the correct driver, but it's all fine now.

Ok, but how do you feel about HP ? 😉
