HP PSC 2210 -- prints a blank page on everything

I just installed this all-in-one printer on my newer computer and for some reason it is not printing anything. It copies things ok, but that is about it. The ink level on the black cartridge was low so I replaced it, but that didn't do anything.

The drivers are up-to-date as I have downloaded them from HP's website and I have the patch also.

Any suggestions?

HP's software often does not install correctly. It usually hangs when you plug in the USB cable. I have heard that sometimes you need to do a complete HP software unistall, then a resinstall the HP software, and when it asks you to plug in the usb cable---do a ctr alt del and see if your processor is close to 100% occupied-if so, kill that process, and then plug in the usb cable.

Additional conformation of that would be---is anything on your computer able to communicate with the printer and change anything---if no, the computer is not communicating with the printer-------software and USB cable might as well not exist.

Also make sure you have the correct usb cable for the printer--if it needs a usb -2 cable, a usb-1.1 cable will not work. If the printer just requires a usb 1.1 cable, having a usb 2.0 cable can cause problems. Nor can a usb 2.0 cable be plugged into usb 1.1 computer port. Physically its possible, but the device will not preform correctly in most cases.

USB 2 and 1 cables differ only in shielding - those should NEVER be a problem unless using U1-rated cable on unit that expects U2-rated. Also if using front panel port to plug printer into (or ports mounted on slot-cover plate) instead of direct on mobo ports, try using the direct on mobo ports as they are always wired properly for USB-2 (if they are u2 rated, of course). If the on-board ports work and others don't, then it is time to get them fixed.
