HP PSC 1610 printer connection trouble.

i'm trying to connect a printer to the router which is located on the other side of the house and i was able to get it to print, but it doesn't look right. when i added the printer, it asked me to choose a manufacturer and printer. i have an HP PSC 1610 but i couldn't find it anywhere on the list. i picked a different psc printer so i'm wondering if that is the problem. they said if my printer wasn't on the list i should look in the manual to find another one that is compatible...but that didn't really tell me anything...so...yeah, i can print documents that look messed up.
