Hey everyone. After a bit of research in NAS's I bought an hp proliant microserver to handle the role of central file storage. After spending more time trying to decide what OS to go for i've hit a bit of a dead end on what to choose.
My use for the server is simply file storage for movies, photos and documents etc that can be accessed by serveral diffent computers around the house and if possible, from remote locations. My current router is a BT homehub 3 (Im from the uk) which does a job at best but read about problems with port forwarding on it. Will i need to replace it?
So basically what OS do you recommend for this task? Ive pretty much no experience with Linux which is why I've held back just going for ubuntu or freeNAS and reading articles about using win8 have got me wondering is it a simpler, idiot proof solution? All input and advice welcome.
