HP printer won't wake up on network print

I have a deskjet 6980 that is connected to my wireless network. when i first set it up it would work fine but after a long idle, it would not wake up when i want to print and would show "offline" in the printer screen.

any idea?

I have the same printer on a network - but I connect it to my wireless router with a CAT 5 - much more reliable. It is "on" 24/7 and I've never had a problem with it except when I installed a Firewall - I had to get the printers IP address on the "good guy" list. Maybe that is your problem?

I'm with Corky. The wireless in my HP 2510 was, to put it in technical terms, just plain flakey. A CAT 5 cable to the wireless router seemed to smooth things out.
