HP printer drivers don't work, different HP printer model driver does...

For some reason, two version of HP's driver for their Deskjet 5550 under Windows XP would not install on a new HP dv8000us notebook. However, drivers from a Deskjet 990c did, and the 5550 is now working under them!

However, XP continuously 'finds' the Deskjet 5550 attached to the computer and keeps prompting the wizard to try and install the 5550 driver. Is there any way to disable that now that the printer is working for some reason?
