HP Powerline networking through power outlets ... anyone tried it?

I see where you can get the HP H950 powerline kit for around $15 now (originally retail $250 a couple of years ago). Supposedly, this allows you to network two computers through just power outlets, at around 2mbps. That's not rocket speed, but OK if you don't have any other simple options (phone line for HPNA 2, ethernet, PCI wireless card).

Has anyone tried this stuff? Does it actually work OK or not?

Even if it works OK in theory, I'm kind of leary since I have a network behind a Homelink wireless firewall/router that supports ethernet, HPNA and wireless, but not this protocol...which means I'd have to do some funky connection to a specific second computer behind the firewall...don't know if it would even work).

I don't have the HP one but I have the one from Dlink 2 yrs ago. My advice is stay away from it, I take it off my system 2 days after the installation. Speed suck, software suck, is a b!tch to setup....etc. Since Wireless router is dirt cheap this day, save ur $ and go for the router.

Thanks for the reply...Sounds like it's as bad as I suspected...I wouldn't mind the speed issue if it installed painlessly. But I've been through enough of these types of things where you need to install invasive buggy software that mucks with your entire configuration that I am now pretty gunshy.
