HP Photosmart S20 USB Scanner & Abit KT7

I just recently completed an Athlon 850 system using the Abit KT7 motherboard (Non-Raid)and I am experiencing consistent lockups whenever I use the scanner (See message header for scanner type). I have tried clean installs on Win 98SE & ME, using the 4 in 1, usb filter, and windows USB patches to no avail. I have disabled the USB error detect in device manager with no luck. USB devices are assigned their own IRQ in the BIOS. All other devices have the most current drivers. Stuck a stick of crucial memory in the system...no luck. As far as I know, there is no bios fix for USB issues, please let me know if there is.

System Setup

Athlon T-bird 850
Abit KT7
Zeus 128 Meg PC133 RAM/Crucial 128 Meg PC100 Ram
Maxtor 20 Gig IDE
Teac 8x4x32 CDRW
Aztech Soundcard/Modem
Rage Fury 128
Case has 250 Watt power supply

Oh and the HP tech support guy hadn't the slightest idea how to fix this issue.

Thanks
