I just ordered this printer from newegg for my wife who needed a photo printer. I hook it up and run the driver CD like HP wants, hook it up when told and all the drivers install but this one. I repeated the install four times, two times with the CD and two times with downloaded drivers from HP. Thinking it might be just her computer, I tried it on mine, same error. At the end of the install it will show me this log error. Both computers are running XPSP2 and my computer has a week old install. Any suggestions other than returning this printer and nabbing a Cannon or other company equivalent? If it has to be replaced, any printer you suggest in the $100 range?

bluestrobe,

Ypu could go to the HP wweb site and then to the support tab. Check for updated drivers (software and firmware) for that printer and try them. You could also check their FAQ on that printer and see what problems folks are having. Last, call the contact phone number (tech or customer support) if they'll talk to you. Last, if all else fails, send it back to Newegg...

Maybe someone who has one will come up here as well...

This link tells how to isolate that error message

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfr...996&rule=46073&lang=en

If you downloaded the driver, maybe you got a bad download. Or if it is on a cd, check to see if it is
clean and maybe slow down the read speed. It could also be a bad USB cable from the
computer to the printer. Or maybe you got a bad printer.

I downloaded the most recent driver twice (once for each computer) and got the same error on each.

bruceb, thanks for the link, I'll have to take a look at it. It's sad that this same error has happened on two computers.

Work around didn't work and this is way too much effort for a printer. Looks like I'll be RMA'in it back to newegg for something else.
