HP PhotoSmart 7960 vs. Using a Photo Shop

I got a new Sony DigiCam and HP PhotoSmart 7960 for Christmas this year. I haven't opened it up yet, because my family is having discussions about self printing vs. taking the pictures to somewhere like Walgreens or Wolf Photo or something like that. I've heard figures like with paper and ink, it's 50 cents a photo, while taking it to a shop would be 29 cents a photo.

Can anyone give some direction on this? Are my figures off here? Is that 50 cents a general figure for all photo printers or just for HPs? Is there a Web site I can look at to verify or compare the experiences? Thanks.
