Hi,

My friend installed XP Pro on on brand new unformated HDD 27GB IDE (FIFO 02.2001) 7200rpm Maxtor (Desc:RSTRD D8607-6300) in HP Brio P3 550 128 MB,works fine, but sometimes, when switches the PC again on it gets a blue screen and the message:

" A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

If this is first time you've seen this ...restart yr pc.
Check and make sure any new hardware ans softw. is properly installed.
(The HDD has been properly instaled! the PC recognises it during the boot..)

If this is new istyalation, ask yr hardw. and softw. suplier for any windows updates you might need.
If problem continue, disable or removeany new instaled hardw. or software, disable BIOS memory options such as cashing or shadowing.
....( If press F2-Set Up and just go thru BIOS options Without! changing anything and Exit and Save Changes and Exit, Y -Enter..., on the 2nd or 3d attempt it starts XP Pro OK....and works fine once it boots the OS corretly...!?..

If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart yr computer, press F8 to select Advanced Sing Up options, Select safe Mode.
