Someone I know owns an HP computer with an A7V-VM motherboard I went to install win 98 and now get 2 listings for gameport joystick in device manager and on for mpu 401 compatible( both have an exclamation mark ) and state there is irq conflict. I disabled both of them and it runs well . Do i need to install all the asus patches and utilities even though its a HP modified a7v -m which patches /etc are mandatory thanks Chas

All you need are the VIA 4-in-1 drivers.

Which items from ASUS exactly are you referring to?

Chas, that ASUS A7V-VM motherboard as installed in your friend's HP desktop is an HP-specific version of that motherboard. And PC-manufacturer-specific models tend to leave out a lot of features from their BIOSes, so you won't find any tweakability at all whatsoever. Don't expect any support whatsoever from ASUS with PC-maker-specific products; you'll have to contact HP directly.
