Hi,
CPU fan question: Is it supposed to run all the time, or only comes on if the cpu reaches a certain temp? I never paid it much attention till I made the major screw-up discribed below. When I initially boot, both fans spin up fast, then the cpu fan stops, while the fan for the x200m chip runs all the time. I've got "FanSpeedv4.31" installed and it reports cpu temp of 54c/ cpu usage 93 to 100%. It is at that temp the cpu fan comes on. Is that normal?
If that is normal, any way to tell FanSpeed to keep that fan running? I rarely run without a/c, so power consumption is not an issue.
I purchased the laptop new Dec 2006. Couple of days ago I spilled a cup of water on the keyboard. Yep, it sounded a shrill alarm and I quick as I could, shut down and pulled the battery and power cord. Opened up the laptop using downloadable Hp manual. Cleaned out best I could, rebuilt and got the same alarm when powering up. Shutdown and decided to order some parts. I replaced the following: Thermal Frame Assy 383880-001 with new, AMD64 3200+ 939 with AMD64 4000+ 939(San Diegao), stock on-board 256mb memory with 1g ddr2700(total 2g now). I guess the x200m IGP will be the "slow-down" from now on.
The bios has an option for the igp to use it's own memory(128) or also use system memory. Default it's set to use it's own memory. Would it help to have it use it's built-in 128 + maybe 128 of sys memory?
Thank you in advance,
JimB
More info: When cpu usage is at 0 to 1%, cpu temp is 38c.
