HP pavillion mobo problem

My mom has an HP pavillion laptop that seems to be on the fritz. I'm not there to check it out myself, but she says she hits the power and the computer issues some beeps and she can hear the fan and possibly the hard drive, but nothing happens. (Not even the bios logo screen)

This sounds like the motherboard is probably fubar, but is there anyway to flash the bios on one of these without being able to actually get into the bios?

depending on what the beeps it is making it could indicate bad ram or loose ram. just turn of the unit and re-seat the ram
as for flashing it, not real luck if it cant boot, most have a floppy flash option it it can or has to be done in windows
