I've pretty much never worked inside a laptop.. and i'm currently using an HP Pavilion ze4100.
I want to know where exactly i would open it from to remove and replace a new CPU i just purchased.

If anyone has any input or perhaps the service manual in PDF format on how to do this.. i would appriciate it very much :)

BTW: This is a ze4100 @ 1.7GHz P4-M

used some good ole Artic Silver .. just make sure you completely remove the thermal and clean the Heatsink with acetone.. let dry well and them place the A.S properly.

FYI: Be extremely carefull when you take the Lappy apart.. specially with the tiny IDE cables.. they are so fragile and pulling them too hard will easily break em.

Follow the service manual step-by-step and you will have no problems.. it took me like 15mins to do the whole thing.. and just make sure you keep all the tiny screws separeted..

What i did is kept them completely separated and wrote down their exact location..

Now the ze4100 i got from Staples was a BTO unit.. and according to the HP site, my limit was a 2.0GHz P4-M cpu.. i took a chance and got me a 2.2Ghz for very cheap (under $130, and was a brand new pulled one too).

The 2.2 worked fine so i have a feeling this same ze4100 can probably go faster.. maybe 2.4GHz??

If you are willing to test that speed, go for it!!! But then again, there's no guarantee that it will support it.

I was able to upgrade from 1.7 to 2.2Ghz for cheap.. and looks like someone locally will buy my pulled 1.7Ghz for $90.00.. so this $37.00 upgrade was worth every single dollar i spent.

LMK how the upgrade goes for you and what cpu speed you eventually will do.. can we say 2.4G ???? :p

Thanks ICR5!

I will be doing mine in November when my warranty expires. I will probably go for 2.0 Ghz.

(unless i can find a 2.2ghz for cheap)

I would venture to say your warranty isn't valid until 2004 anymore
