I am having trouble with my HP Pavilion F1703, made in July 2004. HP had a recall on these monitors made from Oct. 2003- Jun. 2004. This monitor is a month older, but is having the same problem, when booted up, I get this message: WARNING: Monitor going to sleep, but only when plugged into the HP Pavilion PC. I plugged it into my laptop, an Asus X501A, and the monitor worked fine. I am very confused at this situation. Any help would be appreciated.

Please post the specs for the computer because the problem (apparently) is with the PC not the monitor.

This could indicate a problem with the graphics card you are using or the video cable you are using. As Bubbaleone mentioned, specs would be helpful here. Without that info, I will ask: how many video cards do you have (discreet and/or integrated) and are you using the same video cable when trying it on the laptop?

Try "safe mode". If the message is not received, then I would change the monitor type in the HP computer to a generic (eg, generic VGA). Ensure refresh settings are vanilla (eg, 60 hz) and that any display power/sleep/timeout settings in the video control panel are disabled or set to off.
