I'm looking to get a sub-$1000 laptop that's well suited for development and capable of games like Warcraft III and UT2004. Of course I don't expect to be able to play the latest games with that price range but I'd like to be able to run games like that just fine, and emulators for old systems. Portability is good, I favor one I can move around more easily with longer battery life over a large screen. Doesn't need to be able to burn DVDs.

After looking around HP's deal seems hard to beat.

$867.99 HP Paviolion dv6000t.

* ? Windows XP Media Center (free upgrade to Vista when it's out)
* ? Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor T2050 (1.60 GHz)
* ? 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
* ? 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
* ? HP Imprint Finish + Microphone
* ? 1024MB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
* ? 80GB 5400RPM HDD
* ? DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
* ? Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
* ? 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
* ? Microsoft(R) Works/Money

Going to buy this weekend unless anyone knows of a better deal out there.

Not bad, I ended up ordering the dv2000z because I liked the smaller design. I got an e-mail from them with a $10 off coupon code but I couldn't use it with my discount so I'll PM it to you when I get home so don't order it yet. :)

Also did you see this?: Estimated build date: January 2, 2007

128MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7200 is the graphics option on that model though unfortunately. Rounds out at a couple dollars price difference.

Mine says December 19, 2006 for dv6000t. I'd better order real soon though.

Thanks much for that coupon if you end up sending it!

Try hitting Continue after configuring hardware, then the date goes do Dec 19 for me (even on a new system, not the one in my cart).

I don't think that deal can be beat. It's pretty much the same HP I've been looking at. I'm not sure if I will order it yet, but if I do, this will be the one I get.

Thanks everyone, I ordered the one in my first post. Went out to Circuit City mostly to just try out some laptops, they had a similar (but higher priced) model. Nice looking laptop =P.
