HP Notebook ze5000...keeps crashing

I'm trying to fix a friends notebook. The problem is that it keeps crashing Explorer. I've ran diags on CPU, MEM, HD, Etc. and nothing comes up. I've reinstalled twice now. Left nothing on the computer except a fresh new OS and Explorer still crashes. Can anyone please help!

are you formatting the drive and reinstalling WinXP, or are you just doing an overlay install? Is SP2 installed?

Fresh Install, with SP2 XP version.
