I have an HP Mini 110 Netbook that crashes all the time. I tried to re-install Ubuntu instead of Windows, and even the Ubuntu installer crashes, so I suspected a hardware issue.

I ran Memtest 86+, and it reported thousands of errors, so I suspected the memory was defective. It seemed like an easy fix... just buy new memory and be good to go.

The memory that came with the computer is Elpida brand:
1GB 1Rx8 PC2-6400S-666

First, I tried to buy PNY brand from best buy which was 1 GB PC2-6400. The computer wold not boot at all with the PNY memory.

Then, I tried to buy Eplida brand from eBay thinking the same brand wold work. The only difference is the memory I got from eBay is 2Rx16 instead of 1Rx8. The computer wold also NOT boot with this memory either.

Could the 1R vs 2R be the problem? Why won't the computer boot with any new memory I am installing? It only boots with the old memory that came with it which seems to be defective.

I've done many memory upgrades in the past and I don't understand why it won't accept other types of memory.

yah thats just pretty generic ram. i have the same thing and i ripped some 2GB sticks out of my macbook and threw it in and it worked fine. the FSB on that mobo is 533 or 667 so you don't need ddr2-800 at all.

you sure you are seating the ram all the way? that was the only problem i had.
