I have a HP mini 1000 that has been in the closet for years now because of a dead hdd. I can get a zif(pata) ssd and have the laptop up and running, I actually need a diagnosing and setup laptop for work.

But it wouldn't be normal for me to settle without exploring other options.
I haven't looked personnaly but I have seen others who have opened them and there is an open mpcie slot used for 3g cards normally.

Would it be possible to use a mpcie to M.2 converter like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/1714264...lpid=82&chn=ps
and install a M.2 ssd like this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...9SIA0ZX1W06984

I was looking at pcie 3g cards and they say their interface is usb. This is what leads me to be skeptical if it will work or not as m.2 uses real pcie correct?

Would this be possible?

The ebay device that you link to is for putting a MiniSSD on it and insert it to a regular 2.5" SATA place.

Your Newegg link is broken, so I can't see what product you're referring to. However, the M.2 adapter you linked is a simple pin adapter with no electronics. That means you'd need a PCIe M.2 SSD like the Samsung XP941. However, it's highly unlikely that a netbook of the Mini 1000's vintage would be able to boot from a PCIe device.

The newegg link was in fact a m.2 ssd. Shorter than the Samsung you posted however to fit in the laptop.

I also considered wether or not it could boot from pcie, I may just end op using a pata ssd :(
