HP Mediasmart crashed and now stuck in chkdsk hell - any way around this?

I'm not sure what is going on in my server right now. It's going to be around 24 hours since the server has been sitting there stuck in boot. I suspect a drive failed but I can't tell what is actually going on. What I would like to know...

1. Will I make things worse by shutting down the server in midst of chkdsk?

2. If I can shut it down, is there any way to stop chkdsk from running at boot? For example, is it possible to run it on my main machine and if that finishes my server will be able to tell that? I need to at least know what the status is.

yah i would shut it down. sounds like dead drive. let it cool down. try it as a slave in another box to recover files without touching the bad spot if even possible.

freeze it 🙂
