HP M1212nf LaserJet printer installing as SmartUSB device??? (help)

OK, I give. Before I fully download the entire 200mb software package from HP, I'd simply like to plug & install this M1212nf USB printer.......however......Win7 does not want to.

It wants to install it as some HP USB Smart Install Device. (aka CD-ROM??)

What the "H" is this thing doing??

(Win 7 - 64, i3 desktop, simply usb connection, etc.)

I already uninstalled in device manager & restarted computer & when I plugged in.....same thing! Any suggestions??

TIA

It is for the initial setup, its suppose to make it easier to install if you lost the cd or did not download the drivers for the printer.

It is only there for the initial setup, once done it will go away once done, from what i remember, been a while since i did one

Or

Start the install from the download you did and it will prompt you to connect the printer and do so when it asks

Ya, I think I'm gonna have to do it from the full software install cuz it doesn't change otherwise. The 1212 just stays shown up as a "Smart Install Device" and nothing changes. (i.e. I can't print to it)

I was just trying to avoid the whole software suite but maybe I'll just install the whole thing, then uninstall the crap after.

Thanks!
