I have a pretty old Laserjet 2200 that was given to me after being retired from an office. After I got it, there was a leaking toner that I replaced and it seems to be working fine however theres a problem where the right middle of the paper has toner residue which is basically an overlap of what printed. It happens sometimes and doesn't happen other times.

From what I found out, I need a new fuser assembly. Since the printer is several years old and a new printer is about $100, I was wondering if I could just replace the fuser film sleeves. Would that fix the problem?

Here's some Ebay links to the products that I could buy. Which one would fix my problem?

It could also need a good cleaning. When you replaced the toner cart, did you replace the fuser cleaning pad? Did you clean the corona wire? After that, just replace the fuser roller.

I replaced the toner in December but there are 500 pages on the toner at most.

I did clean it out by taking it apart but I really didn't know what I was looking for so I basically just wiped everything clean.

Where is the fuser cleaning pad/corona wire?

The fuser roller is towards the rear. A new cleaning pad comes with a new cardtridge, and it snaps into place in the back. It is a long, felt pad that fits snugly against the fuser roller.

The corona wire runs across the printer near the rollwers, and it charges the toner particles so they fly to the paper and stick. The fuser then uses heat to bond those particles to the paper.

Here are some more considerations:

Repeated images are virtually always toner or fuser. Look up the image defect ruler, measure the repetition distance, & you'll know where your problem is.

Here you go:

I would also point out that although yes you can get a new laser printer for $100 it won't be the same level of printer as a 2200, particularly if the 2200 is a dtn or other up-spec model with extra trays, duplexer, or ethernet connectivity. It's an office level printer, albeit a very low end one. $50 for a new fuser is probably worth it. I'd much rather have that than any new printer in that price range.

Can you take a picture of the output? I don't really know what you mean by residue.

The residue could be caused by using poor quality paper and bits of paper are ending up inside your toner cartridge.
