Recently I purchased an HP DV7-1270us laptop for my son. It has Vista Home Prem 64. No matter how far away it is from my wireless router(an older Belkin) is disconnects very consistantly. I have 3 other computers that never have had a problem, 2 Viao laptops and a home built machine. Is there something inherently wrong with the HPs wireless adapter or something with up with Vista64? All 3 other computers still use XP pro.

Did it do this from the beginning or out of the box. Sure your son didn't screw up drivers or something like that. Does the light that illuminates with wireless flicker on and off at the same time? What does the stats show when this happens. Like is there alot of noise? Do you have good reception? Does it match your routers security? What wireless chipset is in the laptop? What kind of router do you have?

It has been doing it out of the box. He hasn't even had a chance to use it cause of the problem. The wireless light illuminates fine. The net always has an exellent signal as indicated on the HP, the signal will be full strength and it still won't stay connected. The SSID and the encryption all matches up. I believe it has an intel wireless chipset, *edit Intel WiFi Link 5100AGN*As for the router, not sure til I go home. I'm don't think it's a reception problem cause I can have my laptop sitting right next to his HP, no problems on mine, it still exhibits the same symptoms.

update the router firmware. you can find it from the company website. make sure you get the right one for your model. usually it will tell you steps how to identify the specific model you have. try that and see if that makes any difference

i had this exact problem with vista and a vaio. i also did not have this problem with any other wifi connection in my house incl iphone, mac, and a dell vostro running winxp. you may want to try installing ubuntu or some other os on that HP for testing purposes so you can see if it's the hardware or the OS. that is what i did and not surprisingly i had no problems.

I've had the opposite with my 3 year ADP warranty. First time I dropped it on pavement, limped with it for a week (this was only 4 days after getting it, just went on vacation), then sent it in. They changed out the screen, hinges, back of the display because it had scratches, and the speaker panel. They next day aired me back a box on monday (when I made the claim), it arrived tuesday morning, arrived to their facility that evening, was repaired wednesday, and arrived at my door at 9:30AM by Fedex Thursday morning. The other 2 repairs I've sent in for (one was again the hinges, the second time was for a processor fan replacement as it sounded like it's bearings were shot), went just as well.

I ended up downloading an reinstalling every driver available on the HP site. So now my son is optesting the connection... we'll see how it goes. Thanks for all your tips!
