A hallmate of mine has an HP laptop. He recently installed win2k on it. A few days after the install he said that it would suddenly shut off. He would then unplug the laptop and replug it in and it would work. But, later on, it would still shut off on its own. He had to start keeping it unplugged for longer periods of time (15 minutes, half an hour, etc.) and today it hasn't turned on after an hour of being unplugged.
He called HP tech support but since it's long distance he couldn't stay on the line with them too long. They said that the recently installed win2k (there's a small logo on the face of the laptop that says "Designed for Windows 98 Second Edition" and it's an AMD k6 processor of some sort) might be a problem or it could be the RAM he recently installed too (though I doubt that).
Can anybody shed some light on why it might be shutting off like it is?
