HP Laptop Quirk

I bought an HP laptop a year and a half ago. It came with a single core Turion but could use a dual core so I bought one and installed it. The machine ran fine up to a month ago. My son used it and shortly after when I turned it on it powered up to a blank screen. I played around with it without any luck. Then a couple weeks ago I had a friends laptop for repair so I tried his memory in mine. One of his 2GB DDR2 DIMMs worked and the other wouldn't. Also, my stick worked in his machine as I initially thought I had bad memory. I used it on and off for a couple of weeks until two weekends ago. I took it to my other son's and initially it powered up but blue screened loading windows. After a couple of restarts I used it for an hour. The next morning it was back to the blank screen. Today I switched out memory with my sons laptop but nothing. Any thoughts about the cause? Could my Turion be going bad or have gone bad? Considering everything else was good until this happened and the experience with the memory is the CPU dieing? The memory controller is in the CPU for the Turion I believe? Any experts on something like this and what my best course of action would be? I will have to purchase a replacement CPU off eBay or something as well and of course working on a laptop is a pain in the butt as well. Thanks in advance for any help.
