HP Laptop Battery problems

I have a HP Pavilion dv1000 and for some reason the battery tray icon is showing a full charge even when it's not fully charged. When I double click it and look at the battery details, it shows the battery icon and a red X through it. Any ideas?

I got out my old dv1000 last night and updated all the OS, etc., and the battery was way down. It hadn't been used since March.

Anyway - it got all charged up to 100% on the tray gauge - but that is only relative to the capacity of the battery.

By that I mean, the battery's capacity is probably about 50% of what it was when it was new. It could mean that your battery needs replacing. I was thinking that last night. The average life of a laptop battery is about 3 years give or take a few months. At least that is my experience since 1996 - am now on my 6th laptop. 🙂
