HP L2335 vs. Dual Dell 2001FP

Hey people...I need some advice.

I am debating on whether to get one big great monitor, the HP l2335 (review here) OR gettting dual 2001fp's.

I am going to game but mostly it is going to be my college workstation. I do some video/photo editing, Publisher, word processer, internet, etc. Basically, I am just curious if I will use the dual enough to justify it. On the other hand, it seems a shame to get ONE 23'' monitor when I could get TWO 20'' monitors for the same price.

Help! =)

Go with the dual setup. It is very nice to be able to put all the smaller window onto one monitor and then have the other one for your main work.

That's interesting...never thought of that. =) Does it ever get distracting between the two monitors? Like, if you're playing a game does it look weird to have a desktop to your left (or right)?

Anybody loving the L2335?

Thanks!

jesus christ...2 20 inch? That is a crapload of desktop space, and even with LCDs, desktop space will be at a premium at school assuming you are living in the dorms.

Last year at school...I have a single apartment (with the girlfriend and the dog...but the dog rarely uses the computer desk).

Will my ati 9800 be able to handle the dual setup OR the L2335 widescreen?

Well, your 9800 won't be able to handle 1600x1200 or 1920x1200 resolutions very well for gaming. The only advantage that having that widescreen one would offer is for movies and HDTV. I would personally take the 2 2001FPs. Why don't you just splurge and get all 3? 😀

Hmm..all three, huh? Why didn't I think of that?

Well, I've heard that the l2335 can scale down somewhat well for games (not perfect, but still good) and then it can grow with me when I get the next gen vid card (or wait till the 6800gt is a little cheaper).

Yes/no? =)

Edit: Also, the 1900x1200 is just too damn awesome a desktop resolution. I mean, that's gigantic. Perfect for video/photo editing.

Yeah, I agree 19x12 is awesome. I kinda wondered how that monitor would scale. I figured it would need to be better because it would be near impossible to run many games in a resolution like that. Not a bad plan.

It'd be good for watching movies (and HDTV if you got a tuner card for it), would offer nice virtual desktop space, while taking not a terribly large amount of physical desktop space.

Hell, I think I'd do it just to be different. There's tons of people who have 2001FPs and I'm sure there's more that have dual than that 23" monitor.

Of course, you'll have to make sure and get some nice pics of it in action.

I envy you. I myself am working on getting 1 2001FP. It'll be my first LCD, and first monitor over 17". I can't wait to see Doom and other games in their full glory on it. Thankfully I've got a card to handle the native res.

Good luck, and hopefully you won't get any dead or stuck pixels.

Well, I have the L2335, and all I can is is WOW!!!
The PQ is beyond exceptional at 1920x1200.
Of course, this is JMHO.

Wow...Thanks guys! I really appreciate your input.

The more I look at dual displays the cooler they get but I think that's just because I'mnot used to seeing them. I've never actually USED a dual display and while I think it might be cool for a little while...I might miss just having one nice screen (don't get me wrong, the 2001 is a great screen but I don't feel it is a l2335). =)

Sigh...so much money for one screen...I could get a 51'' TV for that much. Oh well...monitors age well right?

I will send pics as soon as I get it up in action!

I started using dual display when the G400 first came out... it was great, and i thought it would be impossible to use a computer with only a single monitor after awhile. But dual displays on a single computer is kind of a waste imo. It's only useful for browsing or text work... or if you do photoshop. It's good because you can drag and drop links across screens, or have the tools on one monitor, and the main pic on another. But if you want to really wow people and have a visual treat, get a widescreen monitor. Gaming at 1920x1200 is absolutely fantastic (if you can afford the constant upgrades needed to keep your system up to specs to play the newest games at these res... if you think 1600x1200 is maxing out your system, try 1920x1200), and i can guarantee you most people will drop their jaw watching a game load on the monitor. I know when people come over to my place and see my games on my monitor, they're absolutely floored by it.

True, you lose some resolutions... because if you have dual displays at 1600x1200, you essentially have 3200x1200 resolutions available... alot more than 1920x1200. But 1920x1200 is a lot of resolutions as it is... you can certainly fit two browsers side by side, or a browser on one half, and Word opened on the other just fine. And when watching movies, you can have full usage of the screen.

both are nice. my friend has the dual 2001fps, and I had dual 18s for a while.. but widescreen (I've used that on my x1000 laptop) is very, very pleasing to the eye. I ran it at 1920x1200.. though it hurt my eyes after a while (being a 15.4" screen), the resolution is really, really good looking. If you can keep up with the hardware needed to run it, consider it.
