Anandtech article mentioned that this monitor can be had for <$1000, but I can't seem to find a reputable place that sells this monitor for <$1000. What's wrong here?

The L2335 has lots of benefits over the 2405, worth the price premium IMO. Although, a 2405 for 800 would be tempting. :)

^^ I agree. But then again, my desk only have space for 23", the 2405 is a little too big for my desk. I have used pricegrabber but never see any price that is <1000. Where did everyone buy theirs L2335 and for how much?

LCD Buyers Guide

Dell 2405FPW

Price: 960-1200 USD
(Depending on offer, can go as low as $800)

Specs:
- 23-inch Widescreen LCD Display
- Samsung PVA Panel
- 16 ms Response Time
- 8-bit colour (16.7 Million Colours)
- Contrast Ratio: 1000:1
- Native Resolution: 1920x1200
- Pixel Pitch: 0.270 mm

Pros:
- Large viewable area
- Very high native resolution
- Excellent colour reproduction and visual quality
- Excellent viewing angles
- Inexpensive for a 23-inch panel

Cons:
- Motion blurring noticeable in gaming compared to TN panels

Summary:
As with the Dell 2001FP and 2005FPW, many people have purchased this monitor and have been happy with it. However, unlike its smaller cousins, the 2405FPW uses a slower PVA panel. Even though it?s rated at 16ms, the actual response time is much higher than an equivalent S-IPS panel. Reviewers at BeHardware.com found no improvement in response time from this 16 ms PVA panel and 25 ms PVA panels previously tested. If you read the LCD technology section above, you would remember that the advancement in technology of ?VA? panels was with MVA panels (i.e. with the 8ms Viewsonic VP191B).

HP L2335/F2304
(Same monitor, the F2304 has speakers on the sides)
Price: 1000-1600 USD
(Depending on model. The L2335 has no speakers. Its a lot cheaper)

Specs:
- 23-inch Widescreen LCD Display
- S-IPS Panel (manufacturer unknown)
- 16 ms Response Time
- 8-bit colour (16.7 Million Colours)
- Contrast Ratio: 500:1
- Native Resolution: 1920x1200
- Pixel Pitch: 0.258 mm

Pros:
- Large viewable area
- Very high native resolution
- Excellent colour reproduction and visual quality
- Excellent viewing angles

Cons:
- Motion blurring and ghosting noticeable in gaming

Summary:
If you absolutely want a 23-inch screen for gaming, this is one of best panel out there. Unlike the Dell 2405FPW, this S-IPS panel is a bit faster in response times.

hmmm well not sure why they says 2405 is a 23" but its not, its obviously a 24" Not sure why they say it TWICE in their review. Also I don't notice any ghosting with the 2405 while I did with the 2001 which is the opposite of what they are saying...

Why not wait for the Dell 2405 to be around $800 again?

What makes you think its going to be $800 again? It's $1079 on Dell's website. That's more than what you could get a L2335 for.

I'm interested in that as well - I can't see any from the spec sheet, other than the smaller dotpitch, with the obvious disadvantage that that means the screen is also smaller.

Other than that - they both are 16ms, they are both 1920x1200, they both have the same inputs, they both have picture in picture modes, they both have landscape/portrait switch, they both have a USB hub. Apart from that, the 2405 also adds a card reader, and claims a significantly higher brightness and contrast.

Maybe color reproduction ?

The 2335 is on a S-IPS panel whereas the 2405FPW is on a PVA panel. The 2335 is supposedly faster and just as accurate in color reproduction according to Anand's review. Basically, like stated above, the 2405 has more real estate, and a card reader. However, the 2335 is faster, and excellent with colors.
