HP Jornada 520 @staples---149.99$ , warm ?

I found that Staples has Jornada 520 for 179.99$,
using the 30$ off 150 coupon, it is down to 149.99.

Is it a good deal? how is this Pocket PC?

Sounds like a good deal for a color PPC. You can't get a color Palm for less than $200, and PPC does a lot more than Palm.

I used to have one. If you have a palm till now, I wouldn't advise getting it. I returned mine. It is much more complicated to use than the plam and there aren't any major sites for programs like palmge*r, also, being that it's not so popular there aren't any good warez sites if you want to use them. It definitely is quicker than the palm and the color is decent. The weight is twice as much as the palm and it is bulkier in your pocket. But, all in all, it is a good machine and a pretty good price.

I've owned many Palms:

Palm IIIe
Palm IIIxe (2 of them)
IBM WorkPad C3 (black Palm Vx) - 3 of them
Palm m100

Now I own an IPAQ and in terms of features and capability, the IPAQ blows them all away.
The only thing I miss about the Palm (Workpad C3 more specifically) is its size. It was only half the weight and size of my IPAQ, but in the end, the Palms got Ebay'd or given away and the IPAQ stayed.

I know IPAQ is the most popular PPC, but I think a Jornada should run most of the same apps and be very similar. I know there are more apps for Palm, but only a handful of useful ones. I managed to find equivelent apps for the PPC, although they were a lot harder to find and I had to ask around, I finally did manage to replace all my Palm apps 100%.

actually the jornada runs MORE apps than the iPAQ right now bec its an SH3 processor not a strongARM like iPAQ. This means that the jornada supports many wince 2x apps as well as ppc apps as long as they were written for the SH3 processior. Problem is that many new apps are written for ARM exclusively bec the new PPC2002 devices are all ARM processors (ipaqs and jornada 56x).

I had a 525 and loved it except for the serial connectivity. Recently upgraded to the 548 bec Hp had a$50 rebate and staples $40 off $200 coupon brought it down to 210. Love this unit even more with USB, cradle and more colors and 32mb ram.


MY ADVISE: FOR A LOW END PDA SHOOT FOR THE 548 SEE IF THE 50 REBATE IS STIL ON FROM HP AND ORDER FROM STAPLES WITH THE COUPON. OTHERWISE GO FOR THE 525. YOULL DEFINATELY BE HAPPIER IN THE LONG RUN OVER A PALM
