HP just released a bulletin about SNMP vulnerabilities. Their solution is to upgrade the firmware. Our problem is that we have over 166 printers that use Jet Direct so it would take forever to upgrade all of them. Does anyone have a solution for this problem?
I came up with a solution to put all the printers on their own segment of our network and block port 161, but I wasn't sure if that would limit the functionality of the printers or cause any other problems. I know we're going to be doing ipp printing soon with Novell 6 so it'll be using the standard port 9100...I think we should be able to block most everything else, but we'll need to test it. Any thoughts or suggestion?
