HP Jetdirect HELP...

Anyone knowledgable with the HP jetdriect 610n? I have it in an EIO slot of my Laserjet 4650dn. When accessing the webserver thru its static IP address 192.168.2.130, there is basically a home tab, and a network tab. Thats it!!! Shouldn't I be able to see and configure other settings relating to the printer?

Also there is an admin password, how do I reset it?

BTW, I think this printer should have the 620n, but maybe it was swapped before I bought it.

You reset it on the EIO menu in the printer itself, via the telnet interface, or a button combo. The reset information is on hp.com. It varies from printer to printer but it often "power on the printer while holding the select and right arrow" or something like that. Jet directs are far easier to configure on the printers vs the web interface or telnet.

All of the 600 series are compatible with each other. An old 600n will work fine in it.

Will look online. But won't the 620n interact with the printer firmware better to allow me to see the supplies, configure printer settings, do firware updates, etc??? At least on xerox it does.

Here is the link. When accessing the web server, I do NOT get any thing close to the setting listed on this link. I wonder if I need a 620n to talk to the printers firmware completely? Any idea?

Ok, still cannot figure out how to clear the password. But I now have all the info showing on the webserver, I just needed to power cycle the printer. How dumb of me.......

Second paragraph.

The newer jet directs may not report supply usage in the web form, the older ones will still report it to the driver. For the most part, all of the 600 series jetdirects are supported backwards. I have plenty of "newer" HP 5550C's running on 610n's etc. Mostly because the 600, 605 and 610 never die. The 615n tends to randomly die. The jury is still out on the 620n for me. I have seen some batches die while others run forever.

May I ask why you are so concerned about the webpage? Once you set up the printer, you rarely if ever use it. The normal users should never be in it.

I know how to do a cold reset now, but I ask what will I loose on my printer settings when I do. I have a complete error log, paper log, etc from since it was new that I would hate to loose. Not to mention some custom color chages I made and can't remeber what I did to get it perfect.

I want to use the webpage to change settings, but more so I can view the error logs, supples status, etc that I would normally need to print a test page to see. Not to mention I run Win7 x64 so drivers are a universal with no interaction to the printer.

Um well... reset it in another printer? If you are are dead set and saving that information then you might be out of luck. Is there a reason that you care about the error logs? I was pretty sure the color settings are not stored in the printer itself but in the drivers. The windows x64 universals actually do interact with the printer. I have the February 2011 installed here and I can see the toner levels etc in the printer information. If the settings are that important, don't forget the password I guess.

I didn;t forget. I just aquired the printer 3/15.

I did the cold reset and did not loose any history logs. I was able to successfully upgrade the firmware on the jetdirect card and also the printer. I an not going to set a password, no need.

BTW,what advantages does the 620n have over the 610n?

If I am remembering correctly (top of my head) Gig vs 100mbps, and an improved web interface. The gig vs 100mbps doesn't matter (often) a 125MB print (pretty rare) would get to the printer in about a second while the other card would take 10 seconds. The printer would still have to process all the information so the performance doesn't make a huge impact. Also while the card is gig, the micro in the printer can't take the information at line speed anyway. The newer web interface has a lot less java making it a bit more (newer) browser friendly.

Excellent info. In that case I guess I don't really need to upgrade. Since I installed 512MB ram to the formatter board, it spools print jobs very fast now.

I think if I would upgrade, I would buy the wireless 680n when it comes down in price.
