Definitely a great deal if you can get in on it. Me thinks that buying from HP SB would be very much like buying from Dell. Also check out some EVO laptops, some very nice sub $700.00 deals.

Buying from Dell is extremely easy. Just list your name as a small company name and presto! As far as Dell is concerened, you are now a small business, lol!

What's your goal? The 1910 is a great PDA, mostly due to its form factor (very thin). You could look at the deal in this thread, or I think Amazon has it new for about $200 after rebate. The Dell Axim routinely goes on sale for $155-$170 with coupons/discounts. It is faster than the HP 1910 (300MHz vs 200MHz), and accepts CF and SD cards (vs SD only with the 1910). CF is cheaper for large cards. However, the Axim is quite a bit larger than the 1910. Both have great screens. I believe the 1910 has the small headphone jack so you will need an adaptor to use a standard pair of headphones. The 1910 has 64MB RAM, and the Axim has just 32MB.

I know nothing about Palms :).

If upgradeability is key, I wouldn't consider the 1910. The SD slot is not SDIO, which means you can't go wireless with it. You can get a CF wireless card for the Axim for pretty cheap (<$25) - not that wireless is that great with PPC anyway. It is rumored that neither the 1910 nor the low-end Axim will be upgradeable to PPC2003 since each has only 32MB ROM, but that has not been confirmed. You might want to wait another 3 or 4 weeks to find out for sure if they can be upgraded, or look into the new offerings from HP that include PPC 2003.

One note, they're most likely this cheap because the new ipaq 1930 and 1940 series are arriving in about 2-3 wks, supposedly. The highest end new 1945 is supposed to be retailed at $299, placing the 1940, 1937, 1935 etc at lower price points. Same form factor with the much faster PPC2k3 OS, which also gives future software support.

It's rumored that 2k3 fits on 32 rom, but the 1910 only has 16 rom (they cut features out of the OS and put them on the cd for you to install in ram).

They'll have possibly faster Samsung Arm chips, SDIO, and the 1945 is supposed to have bluetooth.

Basically, if you need to stay on the bleeding edge, wait till new devices come. If you don't need to stay on the bleeding edge, take a look at how long the refurb deal will last because 1910's may be even cheaper once we see gadget freaks selling all their 1910's on ebay to jump onto 1930's and 1940's.

When PPC 2002 came out, it was bigger than the ROM in most devices (16MB). So, they came out with a stripped version. To get full functionality (MEdia Player, Terminal Services, and etc . . . ) you had to use up some of your RAM.
