HP Immediate Shutdown at Start Up

Helping a friend with his HP dv6748 notebook. Pressing the start button from a complete shutdown, the unit's leds light for a second then shut off. (Unit will not power up into post.)

Pulled the battery out & fully depowered the unit.

It can be made to restart by depowering & letting it sit, but this is inconsistent.

This happens both on battery only or with AC adapter only or with both battery & AC connected concurrently.

Best guess is some kind of regulator issue on the MB.

Anybody know what the cause is?

Sounds like an issue witht he main board. That basicly means the unit is done for. Unless its still under warenty. I which case he needs to send it back to HP to get it fixed.
