Is there any reliable sources comparing the compatibity of +r to -r? I know the +r folks say theres is more compatible, but had no media or burners to prove it. The -r is very compatible, and has a head start on the +r. Also the -r media is much cheaper, less than $2 for generic meritline but work great.

had this unit for over a month..
1. can't find media.. have differnet media coming
2. +RW, not like CD+RW where you need to erase the whole disc to rewrite..
3. +R disc I burn.. doesn't read on any of my dvd.. only the drive that I burn it on..
4. dont jump in, i paid 200 for mine.

forcesho,

How did you get yours for $200? Also, I didn't know they had been available for that long. How did you get yours so soon?

The DVDs I burned with the 100i played on my APEX AD800 without a problem, on my friends Pioneer, Sony and JVC standalone players. The DVDs would not play on my Creative DVD drive in my other machine or in the DVD drive in my Laptop, but...I suspect that is because of the disk not being finalized.

The DVD200xi, according to HP was released with in the last couple of weeks and I've only found their press release so far. But with Microsoft endorsing the +rw/+r format it looks like a safe bet.

Just my 2cents. Check vcdhelp.com for more info on drives and players.

Even though DVD+R(W) is probably superior to DVD-R(W), Pioneer has a really good head start and HP blew it with the 100i model and claiming to support +R. And it will be a while before DVD+R media is $1.39 like DVD-R. I went to a few sites, and most of the DVD+R media is sold out at prices more than DVD+RW.

MS is not a player in the DVD+ world, not really sure what they are talking about. My A03 works just great under XP.

As for MS supporting the +RW standard:

The link is HERE

There are arguments for both formats. Just trying to share what I thought was a hot deal.

<< You paid $200 for a drive even after a 5 finger discount? How does that work? >>

Someone else stole it and he bought it from the them. So, if we all want to pay $200.00 we just need to go to our local crack head.

I'm calling mine right now!

Where do you get DVD+R media? So far the only place I have found is buy.com which has Imations for ~$8.00 each.
