Howdy, just got back from OM, and I picked up one of these drives while I was there. Lowest price of pricewatch was $430 + $12 shipping, so I figured this was pretty good, plus you get it today from a verified store.

Before you pick one of these up though, check HP's website for a full compatability listing of stand alone players and DVD-roms that can read the media. Not all player support any of the DVD formats available right now.

Anyways, I figured this was a good enough deal to warrent picking up!

According to another post, BB is having the same dvd/rw drive for $499 + $100 gift card. This may be a newbie question, but will they match the $425 at OM and still give you the $100 card? THAT would be a good deal...

depending on the actual location, two things could happen... OM might offer it to you for the $399 price seeing as how they don't offer the rebate, and BB might curve and let you(although I doubt it). Also, if you're a retail employee at certain stores you have access to really huge mail in rebates on this and other products, you just need all of your store info and a pay stud to verify it... if you need to know more, you can PM me

or simply use your amex blue...but it's a dvd+rw drive that CAN'T write dvd+r media...why buy a drive where you have to pay $10 for each disc, a disc that is the least compatible of all the current formats (other than DVD-RAM)? i'm not trying to diss dvd+rw, but this might save newbies some time. Personally, I like dvd-rw because it's cheaper ($3/disc) and the discs play back in almost everything, including my ps2.

well, so far I've seen discs to be around the $8 mark... plus, right now DVD+RW is quickly turning into the dominating standard... the reason the discs are so much more expensive is that it's newer tech. Also, if you check the compatability list, almost all decent players are supported... if you're buying low end equiment, maybe a DVD burner is right for you anyways?

I should have waited....I bought this drive for $500 - $60 coupon and thought I was getting a good deal. Grr. I will warn people ahead of time, the software bundle in this drive is not "the greatest" to put it mildly. I paid $50 to get Ulead's DVD MovieFactory (check their site for the free demo).

Check out DVD+RW.org for a great wealth of resources and advice.

Happy burning !

umm the discs are more expensive basically because they're rewritable, NOT because it's the newer technology. look at dvd-rw discs, and you see similar pricing. Also, compatibility is everything. Sorry if you think otherwise. That's like burning all your music to CD-RW and when you go out to someone's party and give em the cd, it won't play in their system --- then you get on your high horse and go about lecturing how CD-RW is the dominant standard because blah blah blah (and the eggs go flying)...

...and being able to play dvd's in your ps2 (dvd+rw discs DON'T work), well, i'm sure you can guess what that's good for.

well, if DVD+RW becomes the standard, it'll be hard to find dvd-rw at all, let alone at decent prices... and besides, my PS2 plays my dvd+rws fine, so I wouldn't consider that a strike against it at all

If you're happy with it that's all that matters, but most people seem to think that DVD-R is the best format and that the pioneer A03 is the way to go. Check www.doom9.org forums for more info. Price isn't SO low IMO that you should sacrifice your preference to get it, I believe you can find the A03 for cheaper on that albeit from crappier stores.

From reading reviews on DVD-R/RW technology the item does not warrant the $425 price tag. It may be lower than price watch, but cost per mb and the "improvements" over CD-R/RW warrant that you wait until the technology improves a bit more. If, however, you are one of those who has to have the "latest" gizmo in you computer, pricematch bestbuy and get for $325 after $100 gift card. GOOD LUCK

doubt amex would work on this because on the receipt BB will probably charge you $399 for the drive and $100 for the giftcard.

Well, the fact that it will allow me to put my movies from Europe and have them work on all 4 of my DVD players in my home and also all of my neighbors seems pretty decent... besides, after my retail mail-in the drive is $99... that was good enough to make me spend

Yeah, but now they are only $299.99 over at TigerDirect.com - right on their homepage.
The media is only $6.99.

I paid $450 for this drive and LOVE IT. Who cares about the +R standard? I like to reburn if it's messed up!

Just FYI.
