I just purchased a new laptop that has HDMI. Is this the standard connection I would use to connect to my LCD monitor (HDMI-DVI connector) or is it simply for connecting to televisions? The only other video connection on the monitor is VGA and I heard you cannot watch HDCP via VGA. Is that true?

Well, HDMI cannot be converted to VGA, HDCP or no.

An HDMI to DVI cable should do the trick to let you connect to the display. But if your display isn't HDCp compliant then you aren't watching any of those things no matter how you connect it.

How do I check to see if it's HDCP compliant? It is an HP LP2465 monitor.

According to different sites I just checked, it is not HDCP compliant.

That mostly will impair you if you have a BluRay or HDDVD drive in your system, but since I think that PowerDVD's BluRay playback can bypass HDCP, you shouldn't have an issue.

Thanks for checking. I checked myself and I ended up returning the monitor. I think I'll go with the Dell 2408WFP instead.
