hard drive died on a dv5000 series laptop that takes sata drives. i installed new 60gig seagate drive and it takes forever to get into bios and when you do it does not detect the drive. i plugged the drive into my desktop and it picks it up fine. i was even able to partition the drive. any ideas?

did your comp come with a floppy disk with the SATA driver? if not, just make one by pulling the driver off a recovery CD. then boot the comp using the recovery CD (you may have to change the boot order in BIOS to do this). you should then see this message or something similar during the recovery routine.

"press F6 if you want to install a third party scsi or ide driver"

hit F6 to install the driver and that should be it. HOPEFULLY you have a floppy drive.
