Considering these 2 laptops.

Which would you pick? After customizing the HP to match the Acer specs avaliable at newegg. they are very close in price. The screen on the Acer is a WUXGA, while the HP has the WXGA with the bright glossy screen.

Both notebooks have x700 with 128mb which was a important feature, along with the P-M processor.

In its class, the dv4000 continues to win a lot of "Editor's Choice" awards. A minor detail which may not matter to you - HP/Compaq all have a very useful on/off switch for the cursed touchpad. 🙂

We've got a review of the 8103 here:

The dv4000 is basically a big dv1000, in terms of quality. It is very well built for the money. Now that HP is offering an X700 in it, that is just wow. The Acer I believe is a good bit thicker & heavier, so consider that. Also, while I REALLY prefer high res screens, if you plan on gaming keep in mind that an X700 can't play the latest games @ 1680x1050. You will probly have to lower the res. Also the dv4000 has the HP QuickPlay stuff built in; where you can play multimedia w/out booting into Windows; if that matters to you.
