HP dv4000 LCD Replacement

I ordered a replacement LCD panel for an HP Pavilion dv4000 notebook PC. The original panel was a Samsung and the replacement is the same model of Samsung LCD. The replacement did not come with what appeared to be a sheet of aluminum foil that was glued to the back of the original LCD panel.

This may sound stupid, but is that sheet of foil necessary for the unit to operate properly?
