HP dv4000/ Compaq V2000

Hey guys,
Its official, HP now has the dv4000/V2000 15.4" laptops listed on their site. While these do use the new Sonoma platform, HP has neglected to make TRUE use of it and only offers regular DDR333 & Intel GMA graphics. While these are a good price for a 15.4" laptop, the GMA graphics really sap system performance.

If you check the benchmarks shown on this page LINK, you will see that the Dothan-based Sony A250 w/discrete Radeon 9200 graphics performs better than the Sonoma-based FS550 w/GMA graphics n the Winstone Business benchmarks. That increase in performance is due to two factors: the A250 has 8MB hard drive buffer vs 2MB in the FS550 and the fact that the A250 has discrete graphics. From these benchmarks, my personal opinion is that GMA does lower general performance. If possible, we aim to get two idental laptops: one with GMA and one without. This should help determine how much of a performance hit integrated graphics really cause. Until then, those benchies are the closest we have
